Being a male makeup artist currently working for Bareminerals, I see cosmetics as a way of opening up to the world, putting your best foot forward and expressing who you really are and want to be. Makeup is a powerful tool which you can use to look in the mirror and literally self reflect on your choices and ambitions. It is not the case that makeup wearers are trying to conform to a firm idea of what beautiful is and follow the crowds. We all have a different canvas and as artist we all have different styles. I believe that makeup teaches us to accept our unique style and cultivate in our inner artist. Life is a gallery and you have the right to exhibit whatever piece of work you choose.
I studied French, Spanish and Philosophy at university so I am different a people person with a strong desire to communicate (a chatter box with a fancy piece of paper to prove it); I like to connect with people on a deeper level and understand them. There is nothing better in this world than doing a client’s makeup and seem the leave feeling beautiful and with a new best friend who believes in them.
I love art and in my spare time you will find me meandering round galleries, pondering aesthetics and engaging in deep conversations about what I see: sometimes deeper than it needs to be; maybe the artist just liked heavy brushstrokes and there is no profound meaning behind it. Maybe his other brushes were dirty…
I am a bit of a spiritual geek and I enjoy yoga and meditation and the amazing effects it has on your health. Every so often you will see some posts on Mindfulness and psychology and maybe even a little spiel on Buddhism.
I hope you enjoy my blog and please do not hesitate to contact me.
